Thoracolumbar Reconstruction Procedure

The following workflow presents a general posterior reconstruction sequence for fractures, deformity correction, tumors and spinal tuberculosis. The final surgical approach and implant configuration should be determined by the surgeon according to the individual case.

Posterior Exposure

A standard posterior midline approach is performed to expose the affected spinal levels. The paraspinal muscles are carefully retracted to provide visualization while minimizing soft-tissue trauma.

Pedicle Screw Placement

Pedicle screws are inserted into the selected vertebrae under appropriate imaging guidance. The construct provides rigid stabilization and a foundation for correction or reconstruction.

Lesion Removal and Decompression

Fragments, tumor tissue, infected bone or compressive structures are removed as required. Neural decompression is performed when necessary to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots.

Reconstruction and Bone Grafting

Alignment is restored through reduction or deformity correction. Structural grafts, cages or bone graft materials are implanted as required to reconstruct the anterior column and support fusion.

Rod Fixation and Verification

Rods are connected to the pedicle screws and securely tightened. Final imaging verifies implant position, spinal alignment and overall construct fixation before wound closure.
